Going to Langkawi by renting a car is not recommended as it may be a costly affair. Even though the tourists can rent a car and take it to Langkawi island using a ferry service, the car can be taken back only on the next day. Hence, a rental car is recommended only if you are staying in the Langkawi Island for a long time. At Alor Setar ferry, you can drop the car for some days as there is a secured parking lot.

Every hour there is a high speed ferry service from Kuala Perlis to Langkawi. Regular ferry services are offered at the Kuala Kedah jetty to Langkawi. The traveling time from Kuala Kedah jetty to Langkawi is 1 hour and 30 minutes. The rates for ferry services from Kuala Kedah jetty to Langkawi is RM23 per adult and RM17 per child. The ferry service at the Kuala Kedah jetty to Langkawi starts from 7 am and last service will be at 7pm.
