What Guide Knows but You Don’t?
The guide will teach you about traditional and modern rice growing methods in Langkawi. A traditional method is to keep the rice grains in bags for 3 days and plant them in the fields. When they grow a little, the Malaysian men pick them up with hands and split them. Then they replant them in different fields. The mud here is soaked in knee-length water.
The modern method is to plant the grains in a field where the concentration of pesticides and fertilizers is very high. The plants will not be picked out or split. They will be watered only. In modern method, very less men power produces a high volume of rice. The area consumption is also less but the taste of traditional method is far better than the rice grown with modern method.
It is surprising to know that women harvest the rice in Malaysia. They make bundles which are taken to factories by men. A fun thing here is that you can actually cultivate or harvest the rice in the Garden of Variety. This is an amazing chance to get directly involved in a life which you have never lived or imagined. Why not try it then?
